South Korean actor Yoon Ji-on has admitted to driving under the influence and has stepped down from his latest project.

On Wednesday, Yoon released a public statement via social media, acknowledging that he had been caught drunk driving the previous day.

“On Sept. 16, I made a grave mistake by riding off on a parked motorcycle while so intoxicated that I could not even remember the situation,” he confessed.

The actor said he has accepted all charges and is confirming whether any damages were caused. He expressed deep remorse to his fans and colleagues, adding:

> “My reckless behavior has brought disappointment and pain to many people who supported me. I have no excuse. I will cooperate fully with the investigation, accept any punishment, and live with lifelong regret to ensure this never happens again.”

Following the incident, Yoon withdrew from the Channel A drama Positively Yours, which was still in the middle of filming. His agency contract with Ieum Hashtag had already expired in July.

The controversy has stirred strong criticism, especially as Yoon initially rose to fame after replacing actor Oh Seung-yoon in JTBC’s Be Melodramatic—a role he took over after Oh stepped down due to his own drunk driving scandal.
