A fresh high school romance drama is officially on the way, and its cast lineup is already generating buzz.
Kim Hyang Gi, Cha Hak Yeon, Kim Jae Hyun, Song Jeong Hyuk, and Kim Dong Gyu have been confirmed to headline the upcoming series The Absolute Value of Romance (working title).
The drama centers on a creative high school student who secretly writes romantic fiction, often casting her attractive teachers as the heroes of her stories. However, what begins as imagination soon starts to blur with reality when she unexpectedly crosses paths with them in real life. As her fictional world collides with her everyday school routine, she finds herself at the heart of unexpected drama, emotional confusion, and complicated relationships.
Kim Hyang Gi takes on the role of Yeo Ui Ju, an ordinary student by day and an aspiring romance novelist by night. Her character navigates two worlds — the grounded reality of school life and the colorful fantasy of her imagination — creating an intriguing contrast that promises depth and emotional nuance.
Cha Hak Yeon portrays Ga Woo Su, a brilliant mathematics prodigy with an IQ of 156 and membership in Mensa. Though outwardly reserved and cool, his sharp intellect and subtle charm are expected to create dynamic on-screen tension and chemistry with Kim Hyang Gi’s character.
The supporting cast adds further intrigue, particularly through a trio of teachers with distinct personalities. Kim Jae Hyun steps into the role of Noh Da Ju, a multilingual Japanese language teacher known for his upbeat personality and ability to lift the classroom atmosphere.
Sohn Jeong Hyuck plays Jung Gi Jeon, a charismatic physical education instructor whose confident presence makes him stand out. Meanwhile, Kim Dong Gyu appears as Yoon Dong Ju, a warm-hearted Korean language teacher admired for his gentle and considerate nature.
The series will be directed by Lee Tae Gon, known for his work on Hello, My Twenties!, adding experienced creative leadership to the production.
The Absolute Value of Romance is slated for release in April, with anticipation already building among fans of youth romance and school-based storytelling.
